Treatment Philosophy

As a therapist, I help people take charge of their lives and move beyond long standing unproductive patterns. The treatment can be short or somewhat longer, depending upon the needs and concerns of each person. Every client or couple is provided take-home techniques, if desired so that the skills, tools and new perspectives can be woven into their lives to achieve permanent pattern change. I help people feel better by cultivating a welcoming and accepting attitude that promotes self-acceptance and confidence.

I believe in coaching people to use and capitalize on natural strengths and work to maximize previous learning and life experience. I help people examine beliefs and thinking patterns that are defeating and that foster depression and anxiety and poor self-esteem. By identifying feelings beneath those negative thought patterns, and changing the thought patterns themselves, people can achieve long term relief from these issues.

Although I have received training as a psychologist in cognitive therapy, depth therapy, addictions models, trauma treatment, family and couples therapy and adolescent treatment models, there is no substitute for a careful plan that honors the values and goals of each client. A person’s symptoms can reflect, at times, important but unproductive attempts to solve or handle concerns or issues. I am a proactive therapist who responds to the individual needs of each of my patients in an ethical and empathic manner.
